Studio Art Group: Ideas Lab

Ideas Lab profiles the work and sources of inspiration the Studio Art Group are exploring in our workshops. Studio Art Group – Ideas Lab explores the weekly process of responding to art and creating new work. This week, the group engaged with the practice of Tomás Saraceno, developing flags that represent their own artistic identities.

Inspired by Saraceno’s exploration of air, sound, and the way relationships can be made tangible through sculpture and installation, participants reflected on themes of identity, place, and politics. Using materials of their choosing, each artist translated these ideas into a flag - an emblem of their practice and perspective.

Here are some images spired by Saraceno's themes of air, community, relationships, sound and the environment. The group used print making, ink, painting, drawing, landscape, wheels, sound, performance, video, textiles and paper to explore these themes.
